Introduction
Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC) Lewis, is located in Buckeye, Arizona, and is run by Warden James Kimble. The facility is a multi-level-security prison with a capacity of just over 5,000 male inmates housed across seven units.
Each unit is designed to accommodate varying security levels, providing specialized housing and services to meet the needs of its inmate population. ASPC Lewis plays a key role in Arizona’s correctional system, focusing on both secure confinement and rehabilitation programs.
Visitation
Before you can visit an inmate at the Lewis Prison, you will need to fill out an application, pay a fee and go through a background check. Once the background check and application have been granted you are eligible to visit an inmate, but you will need to follow the following guidelines and time frames provided by the prison.
The following is specific information regarding the visitation rules and hours provides by the Lewis Prison:
Stiner Unit:
- Monday – Non contact 8:00am – 10:00pm, 12:00pm – 2:00pm
- Tuesday – Special visits, legal visits
- Wednesday – no visits
- Thursday – Special visits, legal visits
- Friday- SDU non-contact 8:00am – 10:00am, 12:00am – 2:00pm
- Regular hours are Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 pm to 4:00 pm depending upon the inmate’s phase.
Barchey Unit:
- Regular Visiting Hours: Saturday and Sunday
- Regular Hours 8:00am – 4:00pm
- Phase 1 Block- Only (4) four hours allowed to visit on Saturday or Sunday
- Phase 2 Block-1 ½ blocks, with 12 hours (8 hours on Saturday/Sunday and 4 hours on Saturday/Sunday)
- Phase 3 Block- Get full-day visits Saturday and or Sunday Non-Contact Hours: 8:00 am – 10:00 am (Friday Only)
- Special Visits: Submit within 30 days for processing to COIII. After approval/denial, a notification will be sent to the inmate for the visit, they will notify visitors. Date and time will be advised on MEMO.
- Legal Visit: Turn in the request form to be processed within 24 hours to the COIII. ADW/DW approves the request form and sends out the notification to the inmate’s COIII. Date and time will be advised on MEMO
Eagles Point Unit
Eagle Point/Sunrise visitation hours are:
- Saturday & Sunday – 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (registration open 7:30 pm – 10:15 am and 12:00 pm to 2:30pm)
- Special visits shall be scheduled 24 hours in advance for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
Rast Unit
Mondays Rast Max L21 Non-Contact:
- 7:30 am – 9:30 am 10:00am – 12:00 pm 1:00pm – 3:00pm
- Fridays Rast Close L32 Non-Contact 8:00 am – 10:00 am
- Fridays Rast Close L37 Non-Contact 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
- Saturday and Sunday Rast Close L32 Contact May 27th House 2 May 28th House 1
- The following weekend the houses will swap days and rotate every other weekend.
Bachman Unit
Contact Visits:
- Saturday & Sunday **Phase One Inmate ** 8:00am – 12:00pm or 12:00pm – 4:00pm
- 8:00am – 4:00pm
Non-Contact Visits
- Must call Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday to schedule a visit
- Visits are conducted depending on available space Mondays & Fridays 8:00am-10:00am & 1:00pm-3:00pm
Buckley Unit:
- Monday – Phase III’s, call for times as schedule alternates
- Tuesday – Special Visits, Legal Visits
- Wednesday – None
- Thursday – Special Visits, Legal Visits
- Friday – Non-Contact (8:00am – 10:00am, 12:00pm – 14:00pm)
- Saturday – All Phases, alternating
Lewis Prison Inmate Programs
The Lewis Prison offers two main programs for inmates to enroll in and attend. The two programs are the Inmate Education Program and Religious Activities.
Inmate Education Programs
The Education Department at ASPC-Lewis offers specialized education, literary classes, GED preparation, and several vocational programs to inmates. The specialized education and vocational classes are available for all inmates, and if an inmate has health and or safety reasons that would exclude them from participating, they will be provided with specialized assistance and access to video/closed circuit instruction, and/or computer-assisted instruction.
ASPC-Lewis has also partnered with Rio Salado College to allow some inmates to take college courses for credit. Unlike the basic literacy and GED courses offered, inmates who elect to take college courses must pay for them at their own expense.
Religious Activities
The ASPC-Lewis Religion Department ensures that inmates are provided access to religious activities, religious diets, and other legitimate requirements of their faith. The following are the faith groups with regularly scheduled worship/study opportunities:
- Catholic
- Non-denomination Protestant
- Muslim
- Jewish
- Native American
- LDS/Mormon
All legitimate religions will be accommodated on an individual basis or in scheduled groups if enough members of the faith group make a request for group worship/study, if a qualified religious leader is available and if logistical issues are satisfied.
