Property disputes can also be included in this type of case.  In a justice court, the maximum someone can ask for is $10,000.

Domestic Violence

Another type of case that is held in Justice Court is domestic violence cases.  These are particularly sensitive cases and deal with the many aspects of family law.  Those who are found guilty of domestic violence may be fined and sentenced to jail time.  In addition to these actions, restraining orders are also issued by the judge in some domestic violence situations.  The court also helps those who have fallen victim to domestic violence find a safe place.

Appeals

Certain appeals are also heard here at this court.  Lawyers and individuals can file an appeal on a ruling and have the case brought back before the judge.  Appeals can happen in many different types of cases and can be filed by both the plaintiff and the defendant.
