Diversity Immigrant Visas

What is the “green card lottery?”
The United States diversity immigrant program allows 50,000 immigrants into the United States each year on a random basis.  To be eligible for the drawing, applicants must have graduated from high school, have two years work experience in their field, and have been born in an eligible country.  Those who are selected will receive an immigrant visa, or green card.  While it is relatively simple to participate in the lottery, the chances of being selected for a green card are pretty slim.  In addition to beating the odds, applicants must apply during a narrow window each year and demonstrate they are financially self-sufficient.  More information about the green card lottery can be found online at http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1318.html.
