Collecting Assessments

June 20th, 2009

QUESTION:  We (me, the homeowner, and my HOA board) are frustrated with the noticeable drop in the number of people paying assessments in my HOA.  Not only does it make it harder for the board to pay our bills and keep our community parks and amenities maintained but it led to the idea of raising assessments to make up for the shortfall.  I do not like the fact that I have to make up for other delinquent homeowners.  It doesn’t seem fair that they get off scot free while I take the hit.  Is there anything my HOA can do to avoid increasing my assessments?

Lets hope that you never have to feel the struggle that some are feeling now. I was employed fro 12 years and one day just lost my job. Unemployment doesnt cover mortgage, food, and homeowners dues. So hmm. What do I pay 1st ? lets see. Can you figure that out. I am not asking you to pay my dues. I am asking the assoication to be patient and understanding of what is goingon in the world. Once gainfuly employed I will try to catch up on my dues.
And when that happens lets hope that you dont need my ( yoru neighbors) help and expect me to pay for your dues.
How about people that are behind volunteer to clean the park or paint a building, or cut hedges, to help work off thier back fees, then the homeowners would have to hire out. There’s a thought.
