Under the law you are presumed innocent of any charges. If you are going to admit guilt, you should be receiving some benefit in return. At your initial appearance or arraignment you will be asked how you want to plea: guilty or not guilty. There are very limited circumstances under which you would want to admit that you are guilty without negotiating a plea agreement.
Also, if you admit guilt, you may lose the opportunity to participate in a diversion program that could result in the charges being dismissed. You need to speak with someone who knows the system and can help you evaluate your options and chose the best possible result for you. Don’t lock yourself into a permanent criminal record when your case could have been dismissed or negotiated into a more favorable result.
