The process of giving birth, aside from the joy of delivering, is painful, stressful, and dangerous for both the mother and the child. Because there are so many instances during birth when the baby’s oxygen flow is limited, the condition known as Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) is most common in newborns.

The Mogen clamp is still used frequently to perform circumcisions on infant males in the United States, but the Mogen Circumcision Instruments Company paid so much money in injury settlements that it went out of business in July 2010. The device was invented by Brooklyn rabbi, Harry Bronstein in 1954. During circumcision, the penis is covered by the device, and the circumciser must complete the process blindly. Consequently, the Mogen clamp is a difficult and dangerous tool to work with.

In early February, California attorney, Lois Carrillo announced that he had filed a claim against the Los Angeles Unified School District on behalf of two girls and one boy that were victims of sexual assault at Miramonte Elementary School in downtown Los Angeles.

When female teachers engage in sexual relations with their students, it is much less likely that the student will report the affair than if the genders of the student and teacher were reversed. This may be consequence of societal influences; the boys may think they will seem week if they have been victimized.
